Style Icon: Debbie Harry A.K.A Blondie

I recently watched CBGB in my effort to stock up on Alan Rickman since his tragic passing, and although I am not generally a fan of the Punk rock band Blondie, I was instantly struck by her in the movie.

And as it has been such a long time since I have done a style icon feature, I determined it was time I did one. Please pardon me if I am a bit rusty on this.

So one thing stood out right away when I did an image search on Debbie Harry and that was this styled top, dress, jumpsuit. She certainly loved this cut. I'm thinking there is a future DIY on this.

But the other thing that I love about her is how effortlessly sexy she is. There's nothing overtly obvious about her sex appeal and yet it is there.

There is a natural ease and grace about her that really makes her remarkable to look at.

She can be completely covered and still be so sensual. It seems to radiate from her very being.

Unlike so many style and sex icons of today, she never needed to be in your face with her breasts, legs or ass. I wish more stars today took a page from her book. To know that you can be completely outrageous without displaying every thing you've got.

Her style was timeless, classic and

bold.

Of course that doesn't mean she won't help you along if you still don't get it. 

Fashion Icon: Effie Trinket

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with a blog- with my son becoming mobile, I am finding myself more busy than ever. But I am still sewing- it just takes a bit longer.

So today is a fashion icon, and it's one I am sure you- as well as me; know and love.

 

Effie Trinket.

 

 

What I love about Effie in the first movie is how she feminizes her structured wardrobe with lots gathers and flowers.  It's something you will notice in every piece she wears, there are tons of billowing gathers- a large flourish of flours and a fabulous fascinator.

 

 

From Hunger Games: Catching Fire

 

 

In the photos that have dropped of Effie in Catching fire we see she has put away her fabulous collection of hats and while one of the dresses has ruffles which capture the spirit of the gathers from her previous wardrobe, she has clearly changed up her signature style. Flowers are gone, fascinators are out- but Effie is still Effie.

 

 

Effie Trinket, while self-observed is still a highly loveable character, unlike some of the women who I suspect may have had a role in her inspiration.

 

 

 



Fashion Icon: Clara Bow

Clara Bow was THE silent movie star of the 1920s.

Tomboyish, awkward and with a comical face, Clara won her first role on the screen at the age of 16 based on these qualities.

It's one of the things I love about Clara, she defies gender and still is sensational.

 

 

Clara Bow's make-up became iconic in the twenties, without Clara we wouldn't have the bow lip. A lipstick application that emphasises the curves of a woman's lips.

 

 

Military seemed to take some part in Clara's style;

 

 

But with age she became a prominent sex symbol.

 

 

Clara was a character

 

 

And some of her style would raise some eyebrows in our more modern society;

 

 

But I just love her style

 

 

Especially these shoe!

 

 

 

And there she is; Clara Bow- 1920s film star, fashion icon and sex symbol.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Blog Schedule and Update

So I'm getting ready to move here in about a week. My life as a new mom has been a busy one and as my son get's older I hope my time becomes somewhat more free.

So next month I'll be trying out a schedule where you'll be able to see a consistant blog posting every week.
