1920s- 1940s Inspired Fall Fashion

Vintage fashion is one of the desperate loves of my life. I often wear vintage and vintage reproduction clothing in my daily life. In the spring and summer I go more for the bright vibrant 1950s and 60s styles but in the fall and winter I fall more in love with the rich tones of the 1030s and 40s.

 

 

Of course getting these luxe looks in an every day outfit is no easy feat. So here are some ideas to introduce the glamour and richness of the 1920s-40s into your daily wear without looking like a costumed character.

 

 

Wearing a textured sweater with a modern high waisted pencil skirt in a rich color. With a vintage scarf and small leather handbag provide for a lady-like 1940s inspired outfit without looking like you've forgotten what decade you're in.

 

 

Consider investing in a pair of oxford inspired pumps like these being sold on Unique Vintage.

 

 

 

The devil is in the detail. I love this bright orange vintage 1930s day dress with lace applique cut outs. Simplicity has come out in the past couple of years with an amazing vintage inspired line that gives you these amazing looks.

Fashion Icon: PJ Harvey

I realize it's been a long while since I've done one of these- and I apologize. I hope and expect myself to start posting these much more often- at least once every other week- if not weekly because my goal is to be posting more often on here and see this blog grow.

So, I thought I'd focus on a few amazing rocker chicks for fashion icons- because music and fashion go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I love PJ Harvey, not only because of her rockin sounds but also for her androgynous persona.

 

 

She dons a well cut suit better than most men. while still classing it up like a lady.

 

 

I'm inspired by her flights of whimsy

Rock Star Hack!

So I admit, I did not watch the Grammy's last night. I found Downton Abby a bit more interesting I guess. But I did catch some of the fashion and allow me to ask just one question, does being a rock star mean you have to make yourself a joke?

Seriously, what is it about going to the Grammy's that makes everyone dress like Bozo the Clown?

Perhaps some people call this fashion but I call it a cry for some serious help.

I beg these women to consider the next time they get dressed up in crazy outfits if what they are wearing is fashion forward or just a pathetic cry for attention. Talented women shouldn't make a joke of their talent by dressing up in crazy outfits trying to make headlines for a "what was she thinking?" moment. They should trust in their talents and their ability to be themselves and not a persona.

Fashion Icon: Calamity Jane

I suppose you all think I am nuts for thinking Calamity Jane could possibly be a fashion icon but you are wrong!

Calamity Jane was by all means a tough woman and far from being a beauty but she has a beautiful way of mixing Mountain Man and Victorian Woman looks to create an amazing style.




As a woman in the wild west who saw battle, fought along side legends like General Custard and Buffalo Bill, she was probably the only lady carrier for the Pony Express at her time.










But despite being a sharpshooter, a drunk and a hero who bravely rescued many people from almost certain death she was also a woman. She had began her career as a prostitute, and worked as a nurse in Deadwood during a smallpox epidemic. And in her later years in life she became a wife and a mother.
