DiY Leather Cuff

I fran across this picture the other day on the web and decided I had to make one for myself.

Its super easy and only takes about 10 minutes depending on how creative you get with yours.

Start by measuring twice around your wrist.

Take that measurement and cut out a piece of leather with that length plus a 3 inch width.

Next fold your piece of leather in half and curve out the ends.

Keeping your cuff folded in half (and you may want to pin it down if you aren't a steady hand) cut slits from the middle up to about 2 inches from the end.

When you are finished cutting your slits it should look like this!

Now is the fun creative part! You can spray paint your cuff a fun metalic color, studd it, cover it in rhinestones whatever. I chose to sew small garnet colored beads on mine.

To fasten yours closed you will want to pick out a fun button that you can easily put through a slip loop and sew that onto one end.

To make your little slip loop like mine take a super thin needle and thread and thread beads onto it. Bring your thread to the back side of your cuff and tie it off and youa re done!

Enjoy!

Fashion Icon: Tori Amos

I've been trying to upload a video on how to tie a Turban for the past several days with zero luck. Something fishy going on with Blogger I guess. So to tie everyone over until I can get the damned thing up and going I'm going to finally start on my Fashion Icon pieces. I've collected a huge group of fashion icons and basically just picked one at random so without further adieu...

I was first drawn to Tori Amos in 2004 by her music. But after recently seeing a live performance where she wore this AMAZING hat, I became drawn to her fashion choices.

Tori is normally drawn to a neuteral color palette, and no one can accuse her of going off her color wheel. She sticks with pale creams, light grays, pale peachy pinks, and warm browns and earthy greens.

While her colors are normally subdued her accessories make bold statements and are show pieces.

Bib Necklace

Really quick tutioral on a bib necklace- a bit different from what you usually see I think.

You'll need: Organza
Ribbon
Scissors
Needle and Thread
Earrings
Lighter or Matches
Sewing Machine

Start by cutting a strip of Organza and burning the edges. Run your organza through your sewing machine and make pleats as you go.

Sew Ribbon to either end of your Organza

Cover where you sewed your Ribbon onto your organza with your earrings. (Mine were vintage clip-ons that were my grandmothers.)

Voila!

Aberzombie Purse

Several years ago my aunt, who apparently didn't know me very well purchased me a Gap gift card for Christmas, It was a $50 gift card so I went in and purchased a couple pairs of pants that I never really wore or liked. Because I spent $50 Gap gave me this ugly as all get out tote bag that has honestly sat in the back of my closet since then.

I however, have decided to turn that ugly Gap tote bag into an Aberzombie Tote bag. I had to hand sew on the letters and for the hell of it, I decided to leave all of the threads hanging off all long and messy. What do you think?

Flower Bangle How-To

I saw this bangle on someone else's blog and I knew I could make it without spending a cent. Yay me!

Ok so this took me less than 5 minutes to do. Here is what you will need.

1-2 bangles depending on prefrence (side note, mine were sent to me from missionaries in Sudan- they were made by women there who were widowed)

1 big fabric rose

1 hot glue gun

1 1'' by 1'' square of ribbon with burnt edges to prevent fraying.

Start by cutting any excess stem from your flower.

Glue all around the base of the stem on your flower.

Place your bangles on either side of the flower.

Place your ribbon wrong side down over the bangles, carefully covering all the hot glue.

Let dry and wear!

Ribbon and Lace

I thought I'd show off a few of the projects I've worked on this week of the accessory kind.

First of all. I recently found a treasure trove of tulle so I've been making little projects with that.

First prject is this pretty little hanger I made by knotting tule around the hanger. This took quite a bit of tulle and took the length of an entire movie to finish just the knotting part. I ten used hot glue to wrap the ribbon around the hook and glue the rose on.

With some of the remaining tulle I followed this tutorial to make a flower.

Here is mine.

Using the scraps from this project I made a second flower hair piece thingy.

And although not being a fan of Taylor Swift, I was inspired by some of her head band gear she wears and made this one.

The last project I'm going to show off today is inspired by the vintage 1950s collars women used to wear on their sweaters. The white one in the pictures is an original and the red one is my version.
